Jewish Museum of Venice

First opened in 1954, it underwent major renovation works in the 1980s, and an expansion project was begun in 2004. For the 500th Anniversary of the establishing of the ghetto (2016) an important renovation and development project has been initiated.

It contains numerous artefacts of artistic value, through which the history and culture of Venetian Jews are illustrated.

The museum is divided into four thematic sections. The first room illustrates annual festivals, through a display of ritual silver objects. The second has a large display of fine textile artefacts, mainly used for decorating the Torah and the synagogue. A large hall offers an overview of the main historical events of the Venetian Jewish community, with the various waves of immigration which formed it, and the social and cultural manifestations which have characterized through the various eras.

To close the museum experience, a room is to be set up dedicated to the key events in the cycle of Jewish life.

The well-stocked Alef museum bookshop, next to the ticket office, can be visited independently from the museum itself.
