Jewish Agrigento

ONE OF THE OLDEST JEWISH COMMUNITY

This very old Jewish community (4nd – 6th century) lived side by side with groups of various Mediterranean populations. In the 15th century it grew so much that it made up one seventh of the local population. The synagogue, known as Gema, was built in 1470 on the Strada Reale.
