Torah: the Pentateuch, made up of the first five biblical books (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy). This is the most holy, authoritative part of the Jewish Bible, which is followed by a further two corpora: Prophets, called Nevi’im in Hebrew, and Hagiographa, in Hebrew Ketubim. The five books of the Torah are kept in the synagogue in the Aron HaKodesh, in scroll form (Sifre Torah).
